Homeland Security and Emergency Management
Demonstrated Success:
- Under a contract with the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOSEHP), IEM is providing pre-event disaster planning and response support.
- IEM provided technical and analytical support staff for the Louisiana Joint Field Office (JFO) Situation Unit.
- An IEM emergency planning subject matter expert supported the Planning Section of the FEMA Albany, NY, JFO for the 2006 hurricane season.
- IEM response professionals supported FEMA's 2005 hurricane response efforts at 10 sites, including at JFOs and logistics centers in or near highly impacted areas as well as at FEMA Region VI and IV offices and National Headquarters in Washington D.C.
- During Hurricanes Frances and Ivan, IEM deployed teams to FEMA National Headquarters and to EOCs in Alabama and Florida. We collected and analyzed data on decision-making processes and resource tracking to support improvement of future response and recovery efforts.
- IEM facilitated a two-day after-action workshop with 300 emergency managers for FEMA and the Florida Division of Emergency Management to gather lessons learned from the 2004 hurricane season.
- Highly trained IEM specialists support Federal, state, and local emergency management agencies in developing new response and operational strategies and tools that can be tested and improved during actual responses. For example, IEM's Operations Matrix Tool (OMT)™, deployed on FEMA's Intranet, supports the agency's maintenance of coordination, communication, and control while responding to all-hazard events.
