Research, Technical and Analytical Review
Extraordinary situations, gaps in knowledge domains, or urgent timelines may require the government and defense agencies to seek assistance from trusted sources like IEM to gather, study, assess, and report on special information. IEM provides this type of research as well as technical and analytical reviews for a wide variety of topics.
Examples of reviews that IEM has performed include:
- Joint, multi-service, and Army manuals.
- Ability to rapidly determine force requirements as they develop from deployed Army units.
- Evolving situations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and emerging operating areas.
- Improvised explosive devices (IED).
- Countermine issues.
- Renewed emphasis on basic combat skills.
- Regulatory requirements that address civilian assistance to military authorities in response to emergency situations at and around military installations.
Assessing where resources will do the most good.
In an era limited by available resources, it is important that acquisition managers who are involved in preparation and approval of Future Year Defense Plans (FYDP) be well-equipped to evaluate all funding considerations and options. IEM has developed budget and program objective memoranda (POM), helping defense agencies quantitatively estimate the utility and cost-effectiveness of a product, system, or activity currently deployed or planned.
Research library, data mining for rapid results.
IEM maintains an extensive professional research library, giving us the ability to rapidly collect, disseminate, and review applicable military and related subject material. We use both internal and external assets and procedures for rapidly reviewing and absorbing information provided by functional, operational, and materiel requirements documents, as well new data, tactics, methods, and innovations derived from the experience of ongoing operations.
Our sophisticated data mining capabilities allow us to rapidly review and collate information, then conduct required analysis on a scientific, quantitative basis geared to each client's needs. These finely sharpened research methods are similarly applied to government electronic libraries and databanks. After research is complete, IEM’s subject matter experts develop appropriate courses of action and recommendations with supporting rationale.
